Multiple Payment Methods

I'm trying to set up different payment methods for different invoice countries.

For instance, if the customer is in the U.K. they pay via Protx. If the customer is in, say, France the payment method is 'Credit card details captured for later processing'.

I have set up the two payment methods and limited them by location.

However, when the customer reaches the checkout page they always get presented with the 'card details captured for later processing' - irrespective of their country of origin.

What is happening is that U.K. customers can hit 'next' without entering the card details and be taken to Protx whereas the French customers have to fill in the 'card details captured for later processing' page.

What I'm looking for is, obviously, a U.K. customer to go straight to the Protx page without seeing the 'card details captured for later processing' page.

I've spoken to support who don't have a solution so before I abandon the idea and try to figure out a 'Plan B' I though it may just be possible that someone has already found a solution and kindly point me in the right direction.

Not really..... We sell thousand of products weighing from .5 gm to 500kg and depending on the order content the packaging will weigh more than the goods. This makes it impossible for us to give an accurate shipping charge for overseas customers via Actinic.

We have set up Actinic so the shipping charge is, hopefully, more expensive than the actual charge. This way we can just refund the difference back to the credit card. However, if the actual charge is more than Actinic's guess we then have to get back to the customer with an accurate quote. If they accept, we then need to get more money from them.

If the original card transaction was via Protx then we don't have their card details and the customer has to place another order with the correct amount. Often, because of the time zones, or language problems, it's difficult to contact the customer by phone. If we had their card details (via 'card details captured for later processing') we can just email them asking if they want to proceed and then just charge their card for the difference.

For UK customers we have a fixed carriage charge so these orders can happily go through Protx.

could you not just process a "repeat" transaction through Protx to recover any difference between the originally paid shipping amount and the actual agreed cost?

One of my clients has added an extra item for purchase called Shipping which he uses for overseas orders.

He has one item costing £1, after an order has been placed, the client confirms shipping cost and asks the customer to return to the sites to buy shipping, they use the quantity to reflect the cost ie £20 shipping equal 20 items of £1 shipping.

Granted he doesn't do a huge number of overseas orders, but it works for him

This is exactly what we're doing at the moment - we have an item hidden on our site called ad-hoc payment.

However, this isn't ideal and I'm looking for a simple way for a customer to just be able to say 'Yes or No' to the quote and let us do all of the work.

Going back to my original question, am I to assume that nobody has cracked a way of setting up a second payment method that by-passes Protx?

Yes, occasionally. For instance we've just had a South African customer wanting 5 large sheets of paper and 4 sheets of Zinc and a single 1 Kg tub of ink. The packaging for this is really awkward and weighs a lot more than the items.

I've had, what seems like, hours of conversations with Protx and can't help.

So back to my original question.......

Does anyone know if it is possible to have a Protx payment for UK customers and a 'card details captured for later processing' for overseas customers?

I'm beginning to suspect that Actinic can't do this (I wonder why?).

You can offer 2 methods of Payment both 'PROTX' as well as 'Credit Card Details Captured For Later Processing'. The issue here is limiting the payment methods usage based on country. I will have a look around for you.
