Adding extra text to a Section with DW

I have a section page that I want to put extra text at the top, like a introduction to the page so to speak, a header almost, so I go into Design/Content page/ and Edit Layout with Dreamweaver

I want the text beneath the Section title of the particular page in question and above the very first Product

Simple enough to do except when I submit the change to V8.5 the text is displayed on every Section page!

    arrrgh
Question is: what part of the page in DESIGN mode do I click on to create the dotted lined box around so my extra text is displayed only for that page

I hope I've explained this reasonably

If you edit the layout, it will cascade across the whole site. It sounds like you just need a text only fragment, with the details included in there. That will then be specific to just that area on your site. Just add a fragment with a text-only layout - much simpler solution for you.

As Lee says use a fragment

These kind of probs are just a slight misunderstanding on the software, which we can often tell from what you write in your post. The simplest way to look at things like this is:

If i want it to be the same across ALL of the site = layout change
If i want it specific to a section = new section/layout selection or fragment

There are exceptions of course and blockifs add another dimension to proceedings, however in general, make a layout change the last resort, not the first avenue of attack.

              Lee

You give good, straight and sound advice without going into a lecture (why you aint paid for this I don't know! - therefore I understand this now (a simple answer do you give which helps better than a huge lecture - if you know what I mean, KISS again)

With all software, it is written by a pro who can't write an UG in "indiot mode" (this I can totally understand why) and you have have nailed it on the head from now on for me

Site wide edits = DESIGN mode/and or D/Weaver
Product edits = Actinic and keep it there!

Hopefully you won't be hearing from me anymore today.............?

              thanks Lee

This is a really good way of controlling fragments as head and foot notes on product section pages.

It is linked into the Developers section which you gain access if you have Developer / Multisite copies of the software
