How does Actinic decide what a Bestseller is?

I have been viewing my bestsellers list with some interest the past couple of weeks because in my own mind it didn't seem that the list was correct.

I have been playing around with the best seller list and trying to reconcile it to actual sales to find that it is not accurate.

I have sold 6 fairy bookmarks over the last two weeks and find that it is not even in the top 20.

Other items that are in the list I have only sold one of.

All products are ticked and should be included.

Can anyone explain how Actinic determines what should, and should not be included.
    Regards

Is this also the case if you select to generate now on the best sellers list?

It is if i also generate the bestsellers.

      Here is an example.

Item A has sold 6 units for £150, no position in list.
Item B has sold 1 unit for £20, 3rd position on list
      item C has sold 1 unit for £30 , 5th on list
item D has never sold ,19th on list

      Kind regards

Theres quite a few settings on the best sellers marketing list and far be it from me to say you have missed something obvious, but it seems like a setting within the marketing menu is set so that it does not pick these up. I tested this quite extensively to see how acurate it was when i first saw it and it was perfect in my testing. Any chance of a screenshot of the settings?

This is a screen shot, although there is not a lot to changed. I am now starting to think that I have missed something some where.

Although the upload says 7 days the results have been from a manual generation.

Apologies if obvious questions, however these things normally have a simple answer. Does the above sales analysis run over 100 days of sales as set in the best sellers settings?

I'd set the include to '30' days, click on 'generate now' and make sure that no items are locked in the list. If that still does not work, i'd suggest raising a support ticket with actinic as something is wrong.

ALSO, make sure that the problem products have not been unchecked to remove them from the best sellers. This is in the marketing tab on the product itself.

I have done so many different reports and days for best seller lists to reconcile.

For instance, I have just purchased on my site 120 silver penknives for nearly £6000. This should instantly go to number 1 product for 365 days if based on value or 3rd place if based on quantity.

It only reaches the following positions though in the bestseller list, the list is set to 20 products.

365 days - not in list
250 days - not in list
100 days - not in list
              50 days - 10th place
              30 days - 5th in list
              15 days - 3rd in list
              7 days - 1st in list
              1 day - 1st in list

I think this is one for Actinic, many thanks for your help Lee

              Kind regards

It's probably based on number of orders, not instances ordered in each order. Do 10 separate orders, guaranteed to hit the top on all accounts then. Worth a test.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head.

One of my earlier posts where I mentioned 6 items, these were all one order so that would reduce the quantity of sales by 5 and report as such.

I think I can now stop scratching my head and let the bald patch grow back.

Seems a strange way to calculate best sellers though.

                  Kind regards

It's not really tbh. If a customer wants to know what sells best on your site, i think they want to know how many separate people have ordered that item. A product that sold 100 in one hit would sit at the top forever and skew the results. I agree with the calculation personally, i want to know how many people, not how many of the item specifically.

                      Good point.

I will stop worrying about it.

I used to have cross sell pro on one of my sites, this gave you the option to choose total items sold, or number of orders containing said items.

Both resulted in completely different lists. Per order is probably best as some sites have items that are always sold in multiples thus would always be top of the list.

Surely bestseller lists should simply list the things you want to sell? - never mind the sales history nonsense

                          Ideally, it would pick up:

                          (1) Products with the highest profit margin
                          (2) Products with the most stock left and which needs shifting

I like the idea of user-defined conditions for calculating best sellers. I've passed this on to the development team.
