Version confirmation HERA or HFUA (FAO ACTINIC)

    Hi Guys....

we shipped act business on Monday and all arrived safely.

We then get an email asking for confirmation about the latest version...we were under the impression it was 8.5.1.0.0.0.HERA but according to the website it is 8.5.1.0.0.0.HFUA

    Can you

    a) confirm if the upgrade is required from HERA to HFUA
    c) what happened to B?
    d) does the upgrade patch work or is it a clean install (8.5.1 was a clean install originally)
    e) why the cuffing eck don't Actinic contract managers notify developers when a new version (such as above) is released?!?!? It is neither practical nor professional for us to keep popping by Actinics WS to see if the latest version has changed.

As a partner, we have received ZERO emails from Actinic since the launch of V8. Come on guys, keep us informed please to allow us to offer an informed service to our clients!

    Hi Daren

I've been making some enquiries about this on your behalf.

You should have been sent 8.5.1 HFUA rather than 8.5.1 HERA, so we're really sorry about that. The admin department had a rogue set of out-of-date CDs in their fulfilment room, and these were sent out in error. Let me know if you would like us to send you a replacement CD.

With regards to the communication, we have you down in our system as not wanting to receive email communications from us. Let me know if you'd like to change this as well. Actinic Partners and cover customers usually receive an email every time a new release goes live. A day after that, the message will be posted in the community.

      Cheers Chris

Updates to production releases and bug changes are needed please mate so please ensure my details reflect this (but it is a big fat juicy NO to marketing or sharing my details ).

Regards the version, is there a working patch around or do I need to clean re-install (again)??

      Ta very much.

You don't need to re-install. Just install the full version of HFUA over the top of HERA without uninstalling first. Then just say 'Do Not Upgrade My SIte Design' when it asks. This works fine.

Chris - how are the "HFUA" etc designations created? Just curious, no other reason.

            Daren

If it is an MU site don't use the patch but apply a fresh install.

Because of the db change (I presume) every time an HFUA patched client access any table it updates the table again. The big problem arises if you have any custom perl scripts or such that will be trampled by each client.

We have 4 users, 2 production, 1 dev and site1. I think I have done every one now but it was a pain.

Maybe Actinic ought to re-consider releasing patches and only do full versions.
By this i mean only do 8.5.1HFUA as a full version.

Nearly All developers avoid patches like the plague, in the days of increased download spped it might be better to offer full downloads as default and only providing patches to those who ask.

That is a great idea Jo.

                          Chris your thoughts?

I agree Jo - I never do a patch update and I don't know what possessed me to do this one

ATM words such as Actinic and Speed are mutually exclusive
