Database link problem - BUG

I have just come across this problem. I have my Actinic as normal on my C drive and I create snapshots onto an external drive as a backup. All worked fine untill today when the power supply to the external drive failed and now when I try to open any site I get the message:

Actinic cannot locate the database and the site will remain unchanged

Actinic then shuts down and I cannot use it. My thoughts are that the database is on my pc as it has always been so why is Actinic trying to find it on the external drive when that is used for snapshots only.

Tried all the usuall suff but I cannot get it working again - I presume it will be like this untill I get the drive fixed.

Looks like jolly old Actinic thinks you backup location is where your at for the main files.

Cannot suggest a resolution apart from get the power is back on but once it is, snapshot to your main pc then "copy" the .acd over to the external drive. This is what we have done (to 2 different Ext HDs) since we encountered a similar issue a while ago.

A real pain in the arse - I dont see why I should have to mess about when its Actinics fault. Next thing we will need to copy snapshots to every folder on the pc so it knows where to look

So its a BUG then - a bloody big one IMO as anyone who backups up to an external drive may have a total loss of data if the external goes tits up! The who point of using an external drive is to avoid this.

Got my Developer Subscription reminder today - dont think Ill bother there are easier ways to make money than fighting with Actinic every day

Techie help...

If the external drive is of the same era as your PC, you can open up the two boxes and pop the external drive in to your pc. You may need to experiment with the little jumpers so the second drive is set as a slave.

The hassle will come if your pc is newer and has not got IDE connectors.

If the external drive is of the same era as your PC, you can open up the two boxes and pop the external drive in to your pc.

one of my old external drives is now inside my PC.

my new ext HD doesn't have its own power supply it is powered through USB (much more convenient for travelling)

I need some information from you to help recreate this issue....

For the site that is not opening...
1) Site Folder
2) Registry settings
3) sites.ini

We have tried recreting this issue and have even tried to snapshot to an external drive, then during exporting disconnected it (as if the power supply failed) Actinic crashed, then when re-opened it worked fine.

We have tried it with several different scenarios and have not been able to reproduce. Please mail me the information and I will get this looked into for you.
