I decided to restrict my workings to one set of wrapping as there is no way of guaranteeing you add the gift tag to the correct item (unless you add a freeform text box for instructions - then it starts to get complex as you are opening yourself up to allowing the customer to dictate more conditions). Don't forget the gift wrapping is upsold in the checkout per order and not with each individual item.

If you want individual wrapping you'll have to use the original method of adding a component to every product, then the message gets attached to the product, but you can still only ship to one address.

I was also thinking that a gift wrapped item more often than not goes to a separate delivery address where 99% of the time there is only one recipient.

So it ties in with the way actinic currently restricts you to one delivery address per order this also restricts you to one recipient at that one address. Which I think will cover most situations.

2 recipients to one delivery address would be quite rare and would only be covered by a 2nd order.

Miss Bumps is putting me to shame, but on the down side is she's forgotten what her hubby looks like.

She's certainly becoming one of the lads - if you know what i mean

Jo, we occasionaly get multiple orders for delivery to 2 or more recipients at one address, particularly at Christmas and Mothers Day.

Although gift wrapping does not really apply to us, as it is assumed to be included in the cost of the product, the components issue does affect us, as one gift may include a particular component, whilst another to the same address may not, or may include a different one. For example, we sell chocolates, balloons, champagne & wine, teddy bears etc as add-ons to our flower range, so a multiple purchaser could easily select different add-ons for different recipients at the same address.

My suggestion would be to to have 2 giftwrap/component options - one at product level as a component, with the notation "Gift Wrap this item individually" , with a price, and a separate one, as suggested by your post, at checkout, with perhaps a warning message to the effect of "if you have already ordered giftwrapping for your product it is not necessary to select this option here"

Whilst this is a valid suggestion it overlooks the fact that my proposed solution to add gift wrapping in the checkout is to avoid having to add it as a component to all products.

I previously posted to say if you wanted multiple giftwrap options you would have to use the component method product by product - this method covers offering gift wrapping as a single upsell to apply to the whole order at checkout. Which will be useful to some stores but not applicable to all possible permutations.

As a store owner who is thinking about using it as a solution you have to remember it offers single order wrapping only, but it saves you having to add a component to hundreds of products on a one by one basis. Pros and cons - your decision

                          Hi,

Have got this working and am really pleased with how it performs… is there a way of not showing the gift-wrap section and product so that it is only accessible from the view cart screen. I have tried hiding them but then the page cannot be viewed when the link is clicked in the shopping cart.

I am sure there must be a way to comment them out of the section list so people cannot navigate to the product, but my knowledge & understanding of comments is pitifully small… I am trying to learn!

Be grateful if anyone could shed some light

                          Thanks

you can use a blockif around the section list to prevent it from displaying specified sections on the section pages, yes (you'd need to do the same for any menus in use that might also display the section)

                              Hi,

I like the idea of this additional line at the checkout. The problem I have is on the checkout where you put your name/card holders name in the checkout, if I put Mr John Smith, when I come to Paypal Payments it takes Firstname Mr; in the Surname John Smith.

If I just put John Smith in the card holders name, then it takes Firstname John and Surname Smith in the Paypal fields (on the paypal server).

Is there a way I can add a box of 'Salutation' so it removes the customers need to put the saluation in the name box and then it will send the correct Firstname and Surname over to the correct fields in the Paypal fields?

How would you encapsulate this scenario...?

                                I sell products for vending, some are made from components for example;
                                • A Vibrating Ring
                                • A Condom (Optional)
                                • A Vending Carton

We then wish to sell what essentially is a "gift wrap" service in that the purchaser may have the products chosen packed into a the vending carton but may choose which, they may want to pack some themselves and we pack the remainder or indeed have a "pack all" products. Bearing in mind that not all the items purchased online may be vending items so we need to apply this option only to vending products, not vending machines etc and for vending products must order in batches of thirty units at a time because that's what fits into the white box we ship packed goods into.

I acheive this all just now by components and attributes but the choice of packed / unpacked is at the product add to cart stage, I would prefer a question in the cart "Pack it mate?"... which is easier.

Any suggestions or should I just change to X Cart?
