Search by sections Q

Is there a way to use the "search by sections" option but limit it to only the 1st and 2nd level sections.
My store is split into sizes and then clothing type and it'd be nice to enable the search to search only through the sizes..and not list all the clothing types in the "sections" dropdown because it's long!

Suppose I'm asking too much here...but wanted to ask in case there was a way to do it.

I'm currently not using the "search by section" option at all but I'd much prefer customers to be able to search by size.

Because development have come back to me saying that "the search works by searching the short description and full descriptions of a product, as well as the properties" .

ok...my store is set up in size sections with subsections such as trousers, skirts etc

I want to be able to add the function to search by size (ie...search term box for typing trousers or whatever...and a drop down for section..size 14 etc)

Trouble is, currently, if I allow "search by sections" it drops down ALL the sections (so it drops down ALL the sizes AND their subsections...which is a LONG and impossible to read list)

What I'd like is to be able to specify which sections I want to show in this dropdown "search by section" list on the search page

Does that make sense?

Tracy i know what you mean even if support do not know there own software?

With regards the other thread and searching by user definable properties, could this help you out, easy to set up when you know how and it's a great little feature

I am sure there is a thread around here somewhere asking about it i shall keep looking

actually yes, Darren.
I had a look at your test site and it might actually do what I want it to do.
I'll be looking into it shortly as it'll make the search much more effective than it currently is.

you can make the custom properties a drop down, i am still playing ath the moment though
