parent layout not populating down the products

i have created a layout that works, i have set it as my parent in the site options
then it seems to populate the required fields in some product but not all
and they are all set as use parent( blah blah)

any clues people as to why it wont populate down to all products

The individual products probably have their own layout selected, rather than "use parent". This overwrites the normal hierarchy. Check top level sections, and all subsections for what they have set.

I can't see any other reason unless the layout is fired by a blockif and the condition is not being met on some of the sections/products.

i checked most of them and there all set to use parent

which is now the same as the layout i want

so i have parent set as layout i want> products to use parent
some work some dont its very strange

ill carry on , im sure its something simple i was just having a senior moment maybe

i'm not sure if U am reading this correctly, but parent means look the the layout set at the next level up and so on until you reach a point where the layout is specified (in your case probably site options)

but I'm not sure if you have specified an overall layput, a section layout and a product layout.

Often if variables are not populated it is because you are using them at the wrong place ie a section variable in a product layout.

hi i have defined product layout in the site options>layout>product>product layout

then i have checked in each product and it has that selection used

in the section>layout>product layout

has use parent=(blah blah) which matches the chosen one above

in the product itself ( i use 1 product per page BTW)
product details>layout>product layout is set as use parent=(blah blah)


i presume this is correct??

like i said it seems ot show on some pages but not all
