Help! Order shipped e-mails not being sent

Please help a damsel in distress. I'm getting orders through my site but the automatically generated e-mails for shipping aren't being sent. When I try to send them I get a message 'e-mail failed to send. timed out' The order confirmations must be going as they're not in the same 'to send' box as the shipping confirms.
Any help hugely appreciated .. I am hard code phobic so please use words of two syllables or less that I will understand!!

    Thanks

    Rachel

Rachel you get this message sometimes when the customer has put an incorrect email address in.

The one sent when the order is place comes from your webserver and you will probably get a bouce / failed email delivery message.

check the email address of the order inquestion.

If it persists check your network settings and run the test, if the mail send fails then it is you email configuration in actinic

Help! Shipped order e-mail not being sent

Thanks Darren - I've manually sent an e-mail to a couple of the addresses that are parked and them seem to have gone through, so must be the e-mail settings in Actinic. The site was designed for me so I don't have much of a clue what they shoukld be set to ... and the Actinic manual isn;t v helpful either. Can you point me in the right direction?

PS thank you for writing in Englsih too, understood every word!!

        OK

Go to the menu bar then click on each of the following

        web | network settings

Then click on test, this will be the last button on the right, if the email tests ok then the problem could be with you internet connection. If it fails then you need to change the SMTP settings, do not change any others.

you can post you settings here for someone to look at. To do this click on export and save it to your desktop, then open the file with note pad or something similar and copy and paste it here - REMOVE YOUR PASSWORDS FIRST.

        Cheers
        Darren

We have similar issues to this time and time again pop up on our support desk.

In your network settings, first off confirm your email settings section is

          SMTP SERVER : localhost
Username and password requiered box is unchecked
And the boxes underneath have no content.

Try this and report back if it is still an issue.

              Good thinking Dazza....

Some host settings can be a little 'quirky'

FTR the one I quoted is ideal for 4sure clients (non .asp)

Thanks chaps - my site is hosted at easyspace - the is iomart.mail.com
I'm just going to try all of your suggestions now...
Tried the test and it keeps getting stuck on CGHI scripts so won't complete the test.

Doen checkede the setting as you've described DJ - all seem OK - ran a test again but it still gets stuck when it gets to testing CGI scripts.
Am going to have aplay and see if I can expert the settings and paste them here..

                      2 things to try:

try typing 'localhost' into the SMTPHOST setting with nothing else smtp related in any other box - remove the (')s from the word - i.e. localhost

Check that in business settings you have the correct email address input for your site.

Help! Shipped order e-mail not being sent

                        Hi Lee,
have tried both your suggestions - running the test with no SMTP prefix and just localhost in the SMTP server box just gets a rejection message saying there doesn't appear to be a server - e-mail address is correct in Business settings.
looks like I'll be on the phone to actinic in the morning -- Grrrrr.

                        Thanks for trying to help.

                              Good spot Bill!

In that case search the forum for easyspace settings, i believe there is 3 possible IP addresses you can try, one of them normally sorts out the problem. As for which one, it appears to just be trial and error, however they are very quick to try anyway.

I'm almost sure they require an IP address and not a name.
