Catalog Crashing Problems

Hi

I am in the process of a complete rewrite of our site. I am about 2 weeks in and about half way through rekeying our 7000 products.

Earlier today Actinic crashed during an upload. After messing about for half an hour I tracked down the problem to a particular section. I deleted this section and the error went away.

After adding back the section and the products the problem has started again after I attempted to generate an "also bought" list. Now Actinic will no longer stay open - it just closes after it starts. I am unable to import or export. I did manage to create a snapshot before I tried to generate the "also bought" list.

Begining to question if I should continue with this development (been using Actinic for a number of years) or just go an do it in somethign else as I am starting from scratch anyway.

Anyone else had this or know how to fix it?

Make sure none of the product reference fields are longer than 20 characters by opening the ActinicCatalog.mdb and having a look. Tip: make a backup copy first!

There is a known bug which can result in duplicates causing product references to overflow and totally screw up Actinic in this fashion. It happened to me and one of the symptoms was problems with the 'also bought' lists plus crashing out during startup..

I have removed Actinic from the PC reinstalled and imported a snapshot.

All appears to be working currently but I have not tried the "also bought lists" as I have not imported any order data.

Will continue to build the new store (taking a back up ever section) and import the orders as a last option before going live.

I had no choice but to remove and install as I could not boot Actinic in order to perform any exports/imports.

When assigning product references limit the field length to 17 characters (not 20 as in the Actinic help files suggest) to avoid the duplicates bug.
