If you want to do it by a set amount set up catagories, then assign you products to these catagories,

        IE
        Free delivery
        £2.95
        £3.95

        e.t.c

            OK

set you catagories up under the shipping options, you can create a complex set of rules for various countries e.t.c

when you set up these then go to you products and set the product to what catagory you want it to be under.

The help on V8.5 has all the info on setting up shipping things it's always worth a good read

thanks for your tips i have hopefully done it by making categories and will see if this works when i go live with my adjustments, is there a way i can see what it will do before i upload it all to the website "live"
                  thanks.

Switch your site to test mode, then upload, this will place everything in a test directory and not effect any thing on your site
