Upgrade to 8.5 or Start from New?

I'm musing on starting a V8.5 site from scratch rather than continue to struggle with an upgrade from 7.5.

Is there an option to build a new site, but to import previous customer orders?

    There's an option:

    FILE | IMPORT ORDERS

    so i would hope so

Or just import the snapshot, let it upgrade it and then apply a new theme.

I would proceed with caution on this path.

We did this recently for a client and PPP would not work at all.

It turned out the somewhere in the upgrade path from v7 to 8.5.1 corruption occured.....

I would go for clean start IMHO then at least you know that there would be no inherited bug issues.

I have done this very successfully .. simply point at the old actinic database with the orders and the job is a good 'un (actually one of the smoothest operations I have done in v8).

I imported v7 into v8. Applied a default theme to strip everything out. Worked on the v8 design with v7 taking orders. Stopped v7.. imported the orders and switched the site to v8. All orders were intact.

10/10 to Actinic from me on that utility

No - no need for stock control.

Import orders will work perfectly so long as you have the same general settings for tax, customer accounts etc on both catalogs. Thats what I did when I upgraded from v7 to V8.5 MU, I upgraded then the site design was redone from scratch and then I imported orders, it worked fine for me.

My site actually upgraded perfectly to V8 but I felt that a site designed from scratch using V8 would be easier to maintain and should run faster, and it is and it does.

upgrade via snapshot from 7 to 8

then export data`using hierarchical xls and reimport, and also import orders, then start design from scratch.

if you do the product import only and it goes pearshaped you've got the option of getting actinic support to clean up the data, before progressing to import orders and redesign
