    Checkout not rendering properly

I am having real problems with the following site in relation to the checkout etc not rendering as it should and not being able to see wood for trees, am at a loss presently to rectify the matter.

When customers go to the checkout, (more particularly with IE than Firefox) the centre (main area) and the right hand bar, are displayed below the left hand navigation bar. Thus, those customers who are not a little bit more inquisitive, leave without purchasing! Those that page down a little, find the information to purchase and do so.

The site is www.turnerrichards.co.uk (which, if I can point out is a very live site).

The site skin was built in Dreamweaver to a width of 900 pixels overall.

As far as I am aware, the bulk area which contains the product layout and the checkout area, should display in the same format.

Any pointers would be gratefully received!

    Regards,
    David

It is too wide for the area you want it to display within. What you are seeing is the standard wrap that happens on every fixed width site when it doesn't have enough room to display in the area provided. Reduce your inner sizes or expand the outer sizes until it fits, you'll then know how much to adjust by.

Its very clear to see that the cart page is far wider than the area youve provided it with, just by looking with your eyes at the area it should have versus the area it actually takes.

i have had to resort to going into all the table widths on the checkout layouts and remove all references to widths there. Simple find and replace of width=ACTSTDWDTH to nothing will do it

        Hi Lee,

In an effort to resolve this issue, I spoke with Kiran at Actinic Towers a couple of hours ago and he suggested widening the inner sizes, which I have just done. Whilst I agree with what you are saying, why when I have 3 columns in the product area (which I believed were the same 3 columns in the checkout are) do they not display the same? The outer wrapper is also the same for both sets of circumstances!

Thanks very much for your input. Don't do a Malcolm on use, will you?

        Back to the drawing board!

        Regards,
        David

You need to bear in mind that the cart although it uses the standard width, it has hard coded column widths which just completely ignore the overall size if that is too small. Select a page and note the column widths hard coded in. If they add up to more that the size you are giving it, plus the mandatory padding as ever, it will always break. If you give the main area 555px to work with, set main area to 550 and set the products area and section widths to 100% it works everytime. If you want to come inside those sizes, then you have to select the cart pages individually and amend them.

If anything actinic should have % widths not hard coded values - that's a ridiculous setup when you are controlling the outer table size by a variable.
