Running V8.5 alongside V7.5

Am I right in thinking that it is possible to host an 8.5 site on the same domain as a 7.5 site?

For example:

We are still running a 7.5 site on the main tutor2u site (www.tutor2u.net/acatalog/shop.html)

I'm looking at creating a satellite e-commerce site on our domain for a joint venture partner, which ideally would be 8.5. it would have very few products in it, but we would need to track orders and traffic separately.

We have a developer licence.

I'm thinking that we could create a new site, presumably with a separate id, and upload to a different folder? e.g. www.tutor2u.net/customershop/

Am I right on this, or completely off track? How would the cgi-bin settings work?

That should work. If your cgi-bin is sharded then you should make sure that both sites have different script IDs.

Not sure about the cookies though.....perhaps someone else can comment on that....

Just to confirm what Duncan told you, that should work fine as long as both have seperate script ID's.
