Can you run multible Actinic Sites off one server?

I have a URL Direct server basically means that I have a .co.uk registered with my server and two other .co.uk's pointing to that server. But the servers host name stays the same.

e.g the server setting for each site will be the same....

But I wanted to run 3 sites.. Now do I need to have a site1/acatalog site2/acatalog etc on the server?

    Thanks, D

What you can do may depend on your hosting. If your hosting supports multiple domains then yes you can do this.

I use multiple sites with one host and have the domain roots in separate folders in my webspace - so in fact from the outside they look completely independant.

    Such as this:

    domain 1 folder
    - acatalog
    - cgi-bin
    domain 2 folder
    - acatalog
    - cgi-bin
    private
    etc..

With some hosts I think you may have to share the cgi-bin across the sites in which case make sure you have different script IDs for each site.

Its just for the future not imediate now

Always best to set unique script ID's for sites on the same server .. even shared servers can cause some issues if someone else is hosting an Actinic site on there.

I'll second that. Seems v8 is more sensitive in some areas than previous versions, and this appears to be one of them. I use a new script id for every working site I open.

My host uses a public_html folder. Am I correct in assuming then that the new domain folders must be created there?

And the changes required to the actinic network settings would be:
            Catalog URL: www.domain2/acatalog/
            CGI-BIN URL: www.domain2/cgi-bin/
            Path to CGI-BIN: /public_html/domain2 folder/cgi-bin

              That sounds right.

You will also need either the ability from your hosting control panel to identify the base folder for each domain OR a redirect in the root folder to the correct folder.

                Thanks Bill,

I have access to cPanel 11 with the addon domains feature. Have set my document root to /public_html/domain2 folder/

Just to let anyone who stumbles across this thread know.

The setup as Duncan has stated works like a charm for multiple sites on one hosting account. Just point the Path To CGI-BIN to the correct folder and make sure your new domain is pointed to the correct root folder.
