Just a word of warning, I do not know what your site sells but if you are going to get many returns you could loose quite a lot of money giving free postage
Nearly all customers expect to pay for their postage and unless really needed by competition then even £1.50 or more brings in some welcome dosh or at least goes someway to cover the postage
I dont want to teach you to suck eggs, but that free postage is a drain on your profits, and unless you look at it, as advertising which will be quite expensive and which could probably be better spent on other forms of advertising
Agree with Chris, we had lots of our products on free postage but have now started charging it (albeit from only 99p per order) again on all but 2 product lines that are so competive we have no choice. Sales on the lines we have reintroduced p&p to have actually increased since doing so and at least we are a, getting something towards the actual postage charged to us and b, if there are returns we have something out of the deal.
Postage costs are a real problem but I do feel that most customers do expect to pay it. And if they ring up asking where their order is, demanding it be on their doorstep '10 minutes' after ordering there's nothing worse than thinking 'you haven't even paid for the blinking postage'
