Question about hierarchical import / export

Hi,

In order to fix a problem with our database I have been advised to export our products to the hierarchical format then reimport it. I was wondering, does this process lose any information, such as values of custom variables, selected layouts etc? For instance, I have added a few layouts selectors at section level: will the layout choices be preserved?

To be safe create a snapshot and also copy the complete Site1 folder before doing it then you can always revert if need be.
