VAT showing on Basket/Checkout

Is there anyway to stop the VAT field showing on basket/checkout pages? Our old site hid this as I think it puts non eu customers off buying.

If it is only the non-EU customers, then you could set your store to 'Request Location information early'. To do this you will have to set the shopping mode (Design |Design Options) to 'Quantity on Confirmation Page' for the entire store. This will force location selection on adding to cart, this will prevent VAT being applied to orders that are from countries other than the UK and the EU.
