why is "extended info text" a variable and not a layout?

Just wondering really
There's no reason why I couldn't replace the extended info text variable with a layout, is there?
Reason I'm asking is that I want to format the text and was just going to do it in the layout..but then realised there isn't one!

Yes you can replace it with a Layout. Said layout could contain a PHP block that processes the text and transforms it, or it could simply contain the original variable.

That's how my Tabbed Product Description patch works. It replaces ProductDescription with a PHP Layout.

I'll have a play later (got to fix something on Jesters first)

Oooh..been playing with the dynamic pricing add-on in Jesters recently too...must get back to that...I'll put it on my to do list because it could prove quite useful in Jesters where there is a fair bit of choice dependant pricing.
