    Using Variables in email template

    Hello,

I am trying to create an email template to send out to PSP-Pending order Customers, with a Paypal link so when they receive the email they can just click the link to complete their order.
To do this I need to insert the order amount variable into the email template, and also the order number. Does anyone know how to do this, when I enter the variable NumericOrderTotal it does not enter the value of the variable it instead enters the text NETQUOTEVAR:NUMERICORDERTOTAL.

Does anybody have a solution to this?

    thankyou

Does the "OrderTotals" variable suit you?
It has the item total, shipping and order total listed

I see what you mean about the others though...they don't do what you'd expect them to do, do they?

Thankyou for your reply, Order totals is no good I am afraid, I just need the total order value without the £ sign.
Your are right the others don't do what you expect, it seems they are treated differently than the Ordertotals variable.

yeh..sorry, I know what you mean though, when you have a template and all you want to be able to do is include the order value. you'd think the NumericOrderTotal should do this but it clearly doesn't.

I wonder if it should though?
        Maybe someone else will know

You should be looking at the Advanced Users Guide, page 103, for 'Supporting an Affiliate Program with Actinic Ecommerce'. This will give you the variables you need to use.. you should be using 'NumericOrderTotalCGI'.

          Kind regards,

that doesn't really help, Bruce (the AUG link, I mean)

I've tried previously (and again after this thread) to insert the order total (and order reference) into emails for the same reason as Ian and never had any success.

I've resorted to having to edit the order number and totals into the email before sending each time.
Just adding the variables in results in the results Ian had in his first post (and that includes using the NumericOrderTotalCGI variable which I'd already tried)

Surely there ought to be an easy way of inserting such basic order information into custom email layouts?

I probably didn't need to, but had to try it, and it does the same on mine.

Are you entering the variable in your custom email template as <Actinic:NUMERICORDERTOTALCGI/> ?

                Kind regards,

well, I was using the fancy coloured view but it was being inserted as a variable and not just typed, if that's what you mean, yes.

                    Hi Tracey

I think the variables you are trying to insert only work on the website - they don't wory in the emails.

All you've really got are variables like <actinic:variable name="OrderLines"/> and
                    <actinic:variable name="OrderTotals"/> - which are preformatted.

                    Sorry about that.

I was afraid that was going to be the answer, maybe you could suggest it to be added for a future release, until then I will add it manually to the email, which to be honest not a great hardship.

                        righto, Chris
I'll stop fiddling with them then LOL (or I'll stick to the ones that *do* work in the emails anyway)
                        Cheers
