Have special offers in outer layout

    Hi!

My client has requested that a small "Special Offer" box be available in my right navigation bar. This, however, is obviously part of my outer layout.

In the default themes a special offer is shown on the home page as a fragment which is easy to alter. Would there be a way of having a special offer that works like a fragment but in the outer layout?

    Thanks!

What about a site wide declared user variable?

Actually thinking about it i don't want it to work like a fragment, it will need to work like the best selling list, where my client can select items that he wants as a special offer and I can display them down the side!! Any ideas?

if you need lots of special offers and you aren't using "New Products" use this instead afrer simplt changing the heading.

or use blockif listIndex and manipulate the bestsellers

ie first 6 bestsellers are bestsellers next 3 are special offers (search the community on ListIndex for more info onthis trick

I hard code mine directly into the right hand coloumn (www splab co za). Not ideal but it works!... Unfortunately, unless your client has html experience, you will need to do the updates yourself.

But how can this work outside the inner layout?

Yeah, I wish they did know some html and I'd hand it over to them!

You can use the NewProductsListSidebar for them (with Mini New Products layout)

Hi! I don't mean to sound dense but would you mind giving me a little bit more instruction please? I have included both NewProductsListSidebar and Mini New Products List layouts. NewProductsListSidebar just shows a list of the top 5 new products and Mini New Products List just shows the text "find out more" in page preview.

What you have done is correct. For eg. you can fix the products in the New Products listing to be what you want and rename New Products to Specials.
