"The FTP server returned a reply code of 550"
"The recent permissions of the file are 0700 and the required permissions are 0755"

"The connection wizard will not continue"

    hi,

i had this problem a few months ago and had to get on to the server and change the permissions on the file back to 0700. if you have dreamweaver or something similar right click on the file in question on the remote server, it should give you an option for permissions. make sure they are set to 0700 and try again. this worked for me!

    hope that helps

      thanks for the reply

      unfortuantely we dont have dreamweaver.

I have right clicked on the file at the location it is installed and set full permissions that way

but now it sticks on checking the website sample file

It appears that permissions are not set correctly. On your server using an ftp client change the permissions of the folders to: cgi-bin - 755 ; acatalog 755 or 777. (This is if you have a linux server - if it's windows you will have to get your host to set the permissions)

            Thank you both

I am using fasthosts to host the site and this appears to cause problems, there is a knowledge base article located here.

I rang fasthost and they told me to follow these instructions, however i cant seem to get putty to work in order to change the permissions...any other way i could do it?

to update, I have spoken to fasthosts again. He advised me to change my hosting to a dynamic website which enables ASP. It may take a couple of hours to kick in, I will inform everyone of my progress.

if you want to host actinic and nothing else - you should consider fasthosts unix hosting

                    Hi Lee,

Did you manage to get this sorted?

As Jo mentioned, the Fasthost Linux package (with cgi) works fine with Actinic. Drop support an email if you need them to help you set the correct folder permissions.
                    Regards,

                    Toby Blanchard

                      Hi Toby,

this was eventually solved by switching to fasthosts dynamic website hosting
