SUm of components and discount groups

We have a range of product groups on our site into which every product on the site falls into a group.
We have a number of products however that use a component and within that the permutations use associated product prices and names etc.
Is it possible for the discounts which are applied to those associated products to be the ones that are applied when the item is added to the cart.

At the moment, the discount being applied is the one which is set on the 'master' product - we have tried removing the discount from the master product but all it does is remove the discount from the whole lot...

I'm afraid this is working as designed, the component/attibute/choice of the product will will be treated as part of the product and the discount applying to the main product alone will not work correctly. This is already on our whislist and with your permission I'll add a vote on your behalf.
