editing the database while actinic is open.

i'v asked a lot of people, including lots of actinic technical people, and i was wondering if anyone here can shed some light on this:

with actinic open, i edit a field in the database. i also update the last edited timestamp to the moment i edited it.

in actinic, i press upload immidiately.

it does not reflect online. in fact, i know actinic knows about my change, because in the case of a product description, it is clearly visible in the product's properties. but not in the preview.

its like actinic has no idea its updated.

if i double click on the product, as if to edit its name, or add a space to the end of the desscription, and press apply, my changes then take effect and i can upload fine.

so what does actinic do, to show that an item has changed? how can i flag or force an item to upload?

how does this process work in multiuser?

My understanding is that the easiest way to force Actinic to "see" the changes is simply to close it down and re-open. Or force a compact of the database. Or run a housekeeping purge.

This forces Actinic to re-interrogate the database data and re-populate this data back into the GUI and anymemory Cache it may have.

I have seen amendments to such fields as section and product descriptions being directly reflected back to the GUI yet direct database changes to variables or the product properties table require a close/reopen or purge etc as above.

I would be interested to hear more from Actinic directly in terms of what happens when both the GUI updates after a data change and how the HTML updates after the data change.

this is the exact same behaviour i'm experiencing.

Thing is, Gabe, even if you change/edit a simple variable within Actinic itself, often it STILL needs a restart to see it and upload!
It's....ermm...flaky, to say the least

Have you tried
"Housekeeping | Purge Emails"

or something equally innocuous to see if that "flushes" Actinic through to make it upload changes?

If it does "flush" the data then your pages my simply "plop" up to the server through your internet "pipe" and "float" into position. Hopefully you wont "loo"se anything that way.

Isn't there a filelist table in each database? I'd look to see if that is updated when a page changes.

Maybe you could 'wipe' the server. Before you a'sk id' recommend a database 'backing up'.
