Why do I have two index pages ?

    Hi everyone,

I seem to have 2 index pages on my site, /index.html and /catalog/index.html

Whilst I can edit, change or delete the /index.html brochure page in Actinic, I have no idea how to get to the /catalog/index.html file ? Can anyone help ?

    Thanks in advance.

Click on the shop icon, all will become clear.

Shop icon ? Not sure what you mean

I just want to remove the other index page as if you navigate to it it's bringing up all the default actinic products !

You have the picture of a house for your site home page and the picture of the green wad of dollars for your shop home page. You have 2 index files as they are in different places, as you pointed out in your post.

The green wad of dollars is the page you are talking about, if you click on it, just like magic, the page you are referring to will appear in the preview window. This is what we call your 'shop top'. If you have a little look round at its settings, you will also see its name. It is called index.html so it stops any unwanted access to your directory.

If you do not want this page to show or be known about, then remove all links to it, nobody could ever know then.

This is what i mean though, the page I'm referring to does not appear in Actinic - it's this page:

          http://mile-high.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

The "wad of dollars" product index page is http://mile-high.co.uk/acatalog/p_index.html which is fine

It's the silly actinic default page i'm trying to get rid of.

edit... ok it looks like that page has slighty changed after a unticked the option "use as website homepage". I'm still confused though since this page now doesn't list my "New Products".

Me too dude, i have no idea what you are now on about. The URL with 'p_' in it is not a valid live URL, either you or actinic has buggered something up. Try a web 'refresh' not an 'update' and see what the live site shows you then.

As for new products, they show where you put them, not where you think they should. Are they set to show on home page in site options?

I see, you have solved the problem there... I have no idea why the products page was called p_index.html but I have renamed it and all is well ! Thanks.

Whilst you're here Lee, if you take a look at my navigation bar at the top you will see I changed "Catalog" to "Products". When you are in the checkout pages and order confirmation etc, it reverts back to catalog.

I'm guessing this is going to be something really simple that I have missed ?

By the way, I got the NorList menu as advised by yourself and think it's very good.

There is often 2 templates used on a site, one for brochure pages and one for product pages, you must be using both but have only amended one of them would be my guess. I'd check both against each other to compare. It also depends on how you changed it of course, in design view or in design-text or somewhere else?

Take a good look around site options you will be amazed what you can learn and find out in there, it's actinic's aladdins cave.

NorList is very good if you can use it, one of my faves.

I have changed it both on Brochure and Product pages - I also added an option "view basket" and that appears on the checkout page fine, hence why I'm confused as to why the "Catalog" text has not changed on both.

I have looked everywhere to change it to no avail.

I edited the values for "<actinic:variable name="TopSectionIconDescription" />" for the Store Top CSS Button which I believe is the correct way to go about it ?

I am getting there slowly with Actinic, I do try and ask on the forum as little as possible and try for a good hour or two myself before giving up !

What shows in the design tab when you select the checkout pages?

It shows as "Catalog" but when i go into the value for TopSectionIconDescription for Store Top CSS Button on this page it shows as Products - is there somewhere else to change it ?

Click on it in design view and see where its getting its values from, it may even have been typed in.

                          It shows as:

                          <a href="<actinic:variable name="TopSectionPageURL" />" target="_self" class="link_menu"><actinic:variable name="TopSectionIconDescription" /></a>

Which is the same as the other pages, it's just not showing the same text for some reason.

It's not showing it on the preview either? or just online? I'd do a compact database, purge and refresh and also close actinic and then re-open it to see if its stuck in the ether. It can sometimes get confused or lag behind. A restart often solves it although your page name problem earlier, suggests either you or actinic has done something untoward.

It shows as Catalog in the design preview and online yeah, just not when you go into the variable that it's calling.

I'll try a restart etc... thanks Lee.
