Changing the price of multiple products

Hi all, it's been a while!

I asked the same question when version 7 was out (can't actually find my thread though, sorry!) and now that version 8 is out I was wondering if anything has changed.

We have a school clothing website (http://www.euroschools.co.uk) where we have products that have different VAT applied to them. Childrens sizes have zero VAT and adult sizes have normal VAT, at the moment the products get their tax from associated products. We have hundreds of schools that each have jumpers, polo shirts etc, essentially they're all the same except for different color's. When there is a price change we are having to go through every product (literally hundreds) and change it's price, is there a way where we would only have to change one price and it would change the price of all the jumpers?

It wasn't possible on version 7 but was hoping it is now possible on version 8.

    Thanks
    Rob

Maybe the flat file or hierarchical file imports is what you are looking for.

Export to csv, make the changes in excel and re-import. If as you say, one product is pretty much the same as another then use cell references so that all the like products reference one cell. Make the change in that cell and the worksheet will change all the cells that reference that one and then re-import.

      Hi Rob,
We have a plugin for Actinic that might fit the bill for what you want to do.
If, for example, you want to change the price of whole sections, or even your whole catalog by 20%, or subtract 15p or multiply by 2 or change to £3.99 then our TASK Actinic plugin could be what you're after.
Email me through the forum for more details if you wish.

i have played with this plugin, and i can safely say that it will save you a lot of time.

if, like us, you want better control over your catalog.

        very useful piece of kit.

in fact, as jan rightly says, both apps can do this.

you are indeed a lucky forum member today. most people dont even get one solution!

I'd like to see a bit more info on the forum about the addons companies have to offer and their prices. We could have like a virtual face off and compare products. A list of addons available and reviews on how good they are on both price and functionality would be good IMO.

In fact maybe i could do a post on this and review myself, i keep meaning to take a look at Jan's addons for example, but have absolutely no idea where to start tbh.

Fair point LOL Gabe, well at least some central reference point listing the providers and the products they have.

Norman, Kermy, Bill, Duncan, Gabe, Jan & Fergus spring to mind, there must be more.

                        Lee,
                        http://www.actinic.co.uk/products/plugins.htm

is the central reference for Actinic plugins. Kermy should maybe get his listed here along with Bill etc
I am speaking with Actinic at the moment to get our plugin listed here as well. Just tweaking the product name and marketing a little to suit both parties.

It should be in Actinic's interest to ensure that all Actinic users get the best user experience from the software including access and information about all the useful plugins out there.

                        can open: worms everywhere.
Not quite. There may be occasional crossing over of functions and features for some plug-ins where the edges meet, but on the whole they are developed for very different uses. I cannot see the benefit in re-inventing the Actinic plugin wheel!
On the contrary, in fact. Collaboration, cross-selling and referring has always been beneficial for the Actinic community and Actinic users.

You might want to address your banner Jan, it's the only one being blocked on that page by advert image banning thingymajig. Just one big red box for me.

From a personal point of view Fergus, i would be more interested in what users and the forum had to say than what actinic had to say. I prefer the horses mouth or at least real users, for instance PPP is advertised on the actinic site with a promotion, why is this, only one reason in my eyes.

Bit like their list of designers also, not necessarily the best and fullest list of designers to help people out, just those that fork out for designer even if it doesn't do what we want it to. Supplier lists are rarely impartial IME, for a variety of reasons.
