    CVV2 Prompt

    On checkout page 2,
Where the CVV2 Prompt "Last 3 digits on signiture strip" , is.
This Prompt works for Visa and mastercard.
American Express Verification code is 4 digits long and is on the front of the card..
Has this been reviewed in a previous thread, or is there a fix?
    Thanks
    Dave

In Settings on the Credit cards Configure method you can change the CVV2 digits.

I am venturing into dangerous territory here, but I think what I want to do is:
Under the design tab, and checkout page 2,
      Change the definition resulting from
      "Paymentprompt008"
      to:
Please enter 3 or 4 digit security code.
If you could aim me in the right direction.
      Thanks
      Dave

You need a dynamic message which changes if someone uses American Express from what i can gather, as AE has a different CVV method to the rest of the world? So if i choose Mastercard, leave the message as it is, if i choose AE, then the message needs to change to the AE method.

In short, that's custom work which you want to stay away from really. Is it mandatory to offer AE, most sites do not due to the extortionate rates they charge when their card is used. Are you aware of the rates?

Custom work will cost you and then the transactions will sting you, steer clear if you possibly can would be my advice.

          Lee,
I think it depends on your market and product, taking account of profit margins as well. If you have overseas customers, especially in the USA or far east they are more likely to use Amex, and the average order value from Amex users is usually higher than other cards, so may be worthwhile.

          Dave,
If you follow the advice Louise gave you it should work ok. We don't take customer card details now, as we use online card processing, but until last year we did, and that method worked ok for us.

Fair point on the overseas transactions Brian, i can't argue with that, it just feels like daylight robbery when taking a payment with AE to me.

I don't think that Louise's solution is what this guy wants though to be honest as it's the text he wants to change, which will remain static whatever card is chosen. True the CVV required figures can be changed, but the message is his real request as i suspect he already has the 4 digit CVV problem wrapped up.

I agree Lee, especially when they refuse to subscribe to 3D Secure, but we have to take the overall view, and we do make good value sales from Amex, otherwise I would drop them due to their high charges.

Just remembered, a few years ago, when we had a much smaller turnover, Amex had a small traders package, whereby if your monthly turnover was less than a certain amount (sorry-can't remember the amount), you paid a fixed fee of £3.00 per month and no transaction charges.

                Lee, Brian Louise.
                Thanks for your input.
A little knowledge or experience is a dangerous thing, hence I thought I had a handle on how to proceed, but after playing with it, I found that Louise's solution is obviously correct.
As far as accepting Amex is concerned, At least here in the States, almost everyone accepts Amex, (rip off or not) and even if your competitors did not, your accepting it would give you a competitive edge, and not accepting it would put you at a disadvantage, here it is seen as a necessary evil and part of the cost of doing business.
