In my code there is a block if=<actinic:variable name="IsCustomerMessageUsed"

I have searched the help files and this forum for this phrase - to no avail.

How do I set this variable and the associated variable Retail Customer Message?

Those are set on the Prices tab of a product, if you are using customer groups, then you can have a different message displaying for the 'Retail' customer and the 'Account' customer.

If you look in 'Help | Variable Reference Guide' and under search enter 'Customer Message' you should find the reference.
