If you haven't customised the Perl scripts then Housekeeping and Compact databases both options. Then Help and Troubleshooting do Web site purge and the first two options.

We see this many times, in particular when I am working on a heavily customised site and upload a raft of changes (raft...one for Leeski to comment on me thinks).

As Peb states, doing the above will flush it out, it is not a major bug just a pain in the a$%e...

website refresh is independant of customised perl scripts as the refresh will delete and create the generated scripts (nn000000x.pl etc) and does not touch the actual scripts themselves.

The only time to beware of customised scripts is a patch upgrade

Just seems abit misleading to me. Surely all the referesh does is delete and recreate the xx00001.pl and pm files.

thus if you customise a perl script ie shoppingcart.pl etc this would be unaffected?

The Original folder in V8 contains ShoppingCart.pl amongst others so I assume they just all get overwritten.

Anybody know what [i]usually[/] causes this error anyway? An access conflict?

As opposed to just `compacting and refreshing` and forgetting about it?

yes but a refresh does not copy files from original to site1

That's a Troubleshooting | Purge and Refresh - it does overwrite scripts

Web | Refresh - does not

Perhaps we need different names for the two 'refresh' options to eliminate this natural confusion?

It's caused by Actinic getting confused about whether it needs to upload all the *.fil files again, or whether it needs to just upload the changes. Although, fingers crossed, we think we've found the cause of the confusion and fixed it in 8.5.2, so this could be a thing of the past.

The 'Web Site Purge and Refresh' on its own doesn't replace the Perl files in the site folder with the ones in the Original folder - it just replaces the online generated perl files. HOWEVER - there is a checkbox option that comes with Website Purge and Refresh to replace the files in the site folder with the ones in the Original folder. Naturally, a standard refresh does not give you this option.

Thanks Chris for the clarification, i was beginning to wonder what was going on here.

Maybe this is confusing then. On the window in order to use purge and refresh you need to tick either "Delete Perl files and restore from Original folder" or "Delete .cat and .fil files".

                          It's not an either/or choice.
                          • A standard refresh generates all the files again and overwrites everything on the server.
                          • A Web Site Purge and Refresh will delete all the *.cat and *.fil files from the server, and then upload everything again.
                          • With the 'Web Site Purge and Refresh' you have the option of copying in an untouched set of Perl files before doing the refresh. This is just handy where there used to be upgrade problems with the wrong set of Perl files being in the Site1 folder following an upgrade.
                          • You ALSO have the option to delete all the *.cat and *.fil files ON THE DESKTOP before doing the refresh again. This is what the other checkbox is for.

Just a bit of feedback for Chris - unfortunately I am still having this problem even with V8.5.2

                              Hi Rob,

Does this happen when you do a complete refresh of the website? 'Web | Refresh Website'.

                              Kind regards,
