    Email Problems

I cannot get the SMTP email facility working.

I have to use secure authentication with my mail provider, how do i configure this, as there doesnt seem to be much configuration of email in the network setup box?

When i used the old system it worked pretty easily, but that was before BT created the requirement to use authentication.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Jason

    Anyone got any ideas?

Ive got the correct SMTP details, email and password but it just fails to work.

The help files and common problems do not seem to point to any other problems.

My email addresses are through oneandone Internet, but on my outlook i use my BT Internet as a Authentication account. Dont know if that makes any blind bit of difference.

      Hi Jason

Have you tried your email settings with LOCALHOST as your SMTP settings with the U/N and P/W unchecked at all?

Just tried local host and get the following -

          Hi Jason,

          Goto Web -> Network Setup.

In your Email settings under SMTP server enter: auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk

Leave username and password required unticked.

That should work as I use 1&1 with those settings. In some 1&1 documentation they list the SMTP server as:
          auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk

          as opposed to:
          auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk

So that may have been where you were going wrong.

          Regards,
          Rob.

Ah Rob you are a Genius

Yes it looks like OneandOne's own documentation is incorrect when you create an email it gives the auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk information. Even the support guy at oneandone I rang up yesterday confirmed the incorrect (non working) details.

Worked as soon as i changed it.

                Nice work Rob.

                One for the KB IMHO.

There seems to be few 1&1 customers who would find this useful.

                Bravo.

True, but it has been discussed lots of times over the last few years and anyone who bothers to search the forum will find the answer.

Not as far as I know. That's why I said 'true' to your suggestion.

My other point was that a search of the forum for 1and1 email would have shown the answer immediately and is always a good starting point.
