    Can't create v8 Snapshot

I am looking to upgrade from v7 Catalog to v8 Business, and have downloaded the latest 30 day trial version from the Actinic website.

I have imported my v7 snapshot into v8, and although my templates need work, and v8 appears v. slow (particularly with page preview open) everything seems to work ok.

However, when I try to create a new snapshot in v8, my PC slows down to a crawl (in Task Manager 99% of CPU usage is being used by v8). Eventually (more than 2 hours later), I have to give up, and end the snapshot creation process. Unless I can create a new snapshot in v8, there seems little point in pursuing with any changes to templates etc. in v8.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Common problem when upgrading - compact your database

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I compacted the database but it had no effect. I have a PC with 2Gb RAM and 3.2GHz processor with plenty of hard disk space.

If this is not a common problem, it sounds as though it is related to the upgrade of my site, in which case it may be I have to start from scratch in v8.

That is plenty - try applying a new theme a couple of times then compacting and see what happens.

It may be a database problem in which case you could contact Actinic and see if they will take a look for you - or get someone to import your snapshot into V8 on another Pc

This was quite common back in alpha and beta testing but was resolved pretty early on with the releases - any current download should have this resolved so it looks like your conversion.

Apply the default executive theme as Malcolm suggests in case your templates are at fault. If you have the developer version of v7 it can be worth "washing" your site through a clean theme first and then importing the snapshot into v8.

You can remember that far back - it seems like a distant nightmare to me.

As jont says it was a problem in the early days - check your version of V8 is upto date and if you intend redesigning the site do as he says and use the "old" method of washing the V7 site a few times - even if you are trying to keep the same design it can be advatageous to start again.

Another method is to drag the database across.

Hope you already have your problem sorted...

FWIW, I created my v8 site from a v7 snapshot. With a similar hardware profile to yours, my catalog (2,000 items) takes about fifteen minutes to create a snapshot.
