    clarification on page titles

    Hello

I'm looking to optimize the website the Page Titles for my clients v8. Sorry to rehash questions that have probably been raised before.

I understand that i can specify tailored page titles on the Page Settings Tab.

In this SEO Title thread by it is suggested we insert some code from the AUG which makes the 'Default' more SEO friendly.

This code appears to overwrite the Page Settings Tab Page Title.

So is it a good idea to use the AUG code whilst you populate your Page Settings Tab Page Titles then revert to the default variable PageTitle when you are good and ready?

    What do you do?
    Thanks

I think you will find that code is to address failings on certain actinic pages, all others use the standard method. i.e. it is just addressing the problem areas, the rest is fine using the standard options.

Thanks for helping me out Lee. Sorry I took some time to get back.

      To be clear:

For a better optimised site I should:
      1. Add my keyword(s) to the Page Title on Page Settings (of course).
      End of.

But if I can't be bothered
      1. then replace the variable PageTitle with the AUG code. That will give me a better default.
      End of.

A title is to explain what is on the page. If you have just one product on that page, then the title, page name, link text, META info and anything else should be geared towards that one product.

Getting page titles right is one of the top 5 things (probably higher tbh IMO) to focus on, if you cannot be bothered to do this, then personally i would say don't bother with SEO at all. SEO is a full package and should be completed as such.

You don't get in your car and say i'm really excited about going for a drive and then say i can't be arsed to press any pedals or turn the ignition key. Do it all or do sod all, don't be a middle of the road monkey, that ensures you will be on the road to mediocrity forever.

best way is to apply a default (as in your I can't be bothered scenario) so you get some sort of title on every page and then aim to use a customised page title as you add one for each page.

Best of both worlds rather than either / or

            thanks both

lee i totally agree. but i am preparing this site for a client. And they vary in their commitment and application of course.

            jo sorry to labour this.

            1.
            apply a default
with the AUG code or just let Actinic diplay company name section

            2.
aim to use a customised page title as you add one for each page
presumably using page settings tab > Page title

So finally, on my outer page layout, should I have

            1. Just the default variable Pagtitle
            2. Just The AUG code
            3 Both
