Hiding sub sections

Hi all, I'm very new to actinic and have a question regarding sections and sub sections....

I have a section of main products, all of which have sub section and are set out like this at the moment:

Clothes
T-shirts
Shorts
Hats

Footwear
Trainers
Flip Flops

Accessories
Sunglasses
Badges


So, at the moment this is what is displayed on the homepage. The main section ie Clothes, and underneath is all the sub-sections, T-Shirts, Shorts and hats.

What I want is the sub-sections not to be shown own the homepage, and to be only shown when the user clicks on the section.

Can anybody help please.
