Product attributes not showing in orders!

    Hi Guys

after switching to V8 we have had a lot of problems, now we have a new one in that some of our products attribute choices are not showing up in the cart or order so the custmer has to be contacted in order to fufill, although i suspect many customers simply go elsewhere scratching their heads

the product variants (small, medium, large) do not affect price, they are all showing in the catalogue pages as normal. Only some products have this problem, others are fine.

The customer selects for example a medium size widget, adds to cart but the size choice is not carried over into the cart and checkout

I have compacted the database and pulled out most of my hair while waiting for the 3 hour upload

    (4000 products in 1700 sections on a p4 1.7 with 512mb, i know i know)

any ideas anyone on how i can fix these rogue products with no way of identifying which are problematic and which are not without adding each one to cart

FYI we have always simply copy and pasted new products into the cart without problem in V7 - (Oh how i dream of V7 and buying a new laptop)

thanks so much for any help you can give

    Barry

posting your URL might help and an example of products that are (and aren't) affected

one rogue product is the 5th from bottom, named Comeback Kid T-Shirt - Spray Paint (loose fit) the medium size option does not carry over

have you checked the item details in your catalog (back end) with a fine toothcomb? ensuring all the details are identical?

the offending items aren't duplicates, are they? (they don't look to be)

tbh, I took a look and couldn't work out why they're not working right either, it does seem strange.

I assume you don't have any associated products or anything set up with them?
Just check your attribute settings, comparing working ones vs non-working ones.

there is no difference between working items and non working.

no the products are not duplicated anywhere else and no associated products

i have fixed them before by deleting then purging the Db (35 mins)

and then pasting in attributes from working products and then uploading (3 hours)

does the trick but i need a way to find and fix them all

thanks for looking at the for me Tracey

has anyone else had this problem?

I'd be inclined to send a snapshot to support and get them to look at it...if nothing else, to see if they can find a way to detect all the "affected" products as finding them will be the hardest part, even though you have found a way to "fix" them.

You have screwed up your attribute layouts by the look of it. If I add an X-Large to the basket I get the size showing, but it's a medium.

Take a snapshot and then start reverting the appropriate layouts, uplaoding after each revert and snapshotting.
              Cheers

thanks so much folks for taking the time to look at this

im not so sure its the attribute layouts, reason being that most other products work fine, there is only a few here and there that are causing problems, they all use the same attributes which all use the same layout

seems more like its a corruption of data somewhere no?

have i understood you correctly Dave?

                thanks again for your help!

You have understood! Have you tried deleting and then recreating the product?
                  Cheers

                    thats allways nice to hear

what does work is deleting the attibutes, then pasting back in from a working product, much the same as deleting then re installing the product i suppose

but that leaves me with a problem of how do i know which products have this problem? i cant think of a way to find out except to add them all to cart (4000 products with 4 choices, 16000 add to carts!)

mmmm, over to actinic support on this one....

ill post back what i find

                    thanks again guys

WHat version you running? Do you copy and paste a lot of attributes? There was an issue a while back with copying and pasting attributes causing weird errors.
                      Cheers
