    Actinic Crashes after import orders

    Hi,

I have a sales PC in the office that does all of the order processing but maintain the website from a different PC. Up to now, I have been quite happily take a copy of the database from the sales PC and using it as the source file to import orders from on the maintenance PC. This is so i can generate the best seller list and the also bought items.

Now this week it has gone wrong, when I import orders, the orders import fine but as soon as I upload the site, Actinic crashes. I have tried this a number of times but eventually had to resort back to a saved snapshot. I have compacted the sales database but still no joy.

    Any suggestions please?

    Thanks

Usually importing orders is painless - as you know. It could be a corrupted order causing the crash.. may be worth making multiple copies of the database and deleting orders and importing until you find the rogue - a pain for sure.

Support will probably tell you to upgrade to v8.5.1 .. but I am on v8.5.0 for many sites and the orders import runs without issue.

Ouch - yes that would be a pain but if that is what it takes so be it. Any ideas what could happen to an order to corrupt it?

      Thanks

In what way does it crash?

          Hi Jan,

It starts uploading and after a short time of 10 seconds or so you get the pop up which if I remember correctly states something like Actinic has encountered an error and needs to shut down. You can view a rather long list of parameters which means nothing to me. As soon as you close this pop up, Actinic shuts down. Actinic will load again and everything appears fine until you go to upload it again, then it crashes again.

Thanks Paul, doesn't really help though, does the database you are importing orders from have the same tax settings as the one you are importing the orders into?

Jan, I have not knowingly changed any settings. The site went live back in August and I have carried out the import every 1-2 weeks just to update the best sellers and also boughts. What I shall try as Jont suggests is delete the orders, starting with those received since the last successful import and work from there. What I did notice is the Actinic warning when you import orders about taking a snapshot first as corrupt orders can stop Actinic from working. This would suggest that this problem is not new to Actinic but it does not help in identify how and why the corruption takes place. I'll give Actinic a call in case they can shed more light on it.

              Thanks

Problem logged with Actinic, I'll post back if or should I say when I get a solution.

Just a quick update should others experience the same problem. Having spent over a week trying different things I did find that everytime Actinic crashed, I had to reboot the PC and reload the good snapshot before attempting an orders import again - rather time consuming. Even this did not identify the rogue order, in fact would only import when all orders were removed.

In order to get Actinic support to help required us to send them snapshots and the database but this meant including customer details in the database backup which we can't do.

However, the only way I have managed to get things to work is by taking a support snapshot from the sales PC. Importing this on the maintenance PC with over-writing of orders. Then import my maintenance PC snapshot but only all contents thus leaving the sales PC orders in place. I can then generate best sellers and also boughts.

So. I have a solution that does not use the import orders feature and has the added advantage of not importing customers personal details onto the maintenance PC. A longer way of doing things and does not explain why what was originally working now does not.
