secure java applet won't work in Firefox

The secure java applet for entering credit card details in my checkout works perfectly in IE and Safari, but it all seems to go wrong in Firefox - you can't select from the drop down menus or enter info in the fields. Dooes anyone know why this and if there's anything I can do to get around this?

    Thanks

    Hi Tom

My best advice is to drop the java applet and get an SSL certificate.

The Java applet was really only a bodge for use when SSL was expensive and hard to get working. This isn't the case any more and it's really time to move on to something better.

This has cropped up several times recently - searching will find the thread but the recomendation is NOT to use it for all sorts of reasons - even Actinic say not to use it.

The built in encryption module is abit legacy nowadays. In the early days when SSL cost 6* more than actinic having to buy SSL was a ball breaker, thus the module was born.

But things have changed, round about v4 time, Pcs were not shipped with Java (due do some daft dispute between Sun and MS) so the encryption module was rendered pretty well obsolete as in order to buy anything potential customers would have to download the java module. So Actinic wrote its own shared SSL as a cost effective alternative.

Since then, PCs are shipped with Java again, but the damage was done to the encryption module, that and coupled with the fact that customers are trained to look for the golden padlock or https.

By all means use the encryption module as a backup payment method, but it is not a means to build a trade as many people simply will not view it as secure (even though it is)
