    Hide on website question

Hi - could someone clarify this for me.

My understanding was if you were to hide a section within Actinic then that page would be purged from the website.

What I actually get is the links to that page being deleted, but not the page itself. This means that the pages are still accessible via search engines.

If I go on my website and physically delete the pages one by one, then they are not uploaded when I next upload the site

Is that the way it is supposed to work?
    Regards
    David

Exactly as i would expect things to be, delete it if not wanted, not hide it. Hidden products for stock control would fail if your understandings were true.

I think David means that a hidden page should be removed from the ONLINE site, not the catalogue..and obviously he's experiencing otherwise.

I would certainly expect a page that is subsequently hidden in catalog and uploaded, to be unavailable online, are you saying this isn't the case?

actually, having tested that theory, it's true.
checking the "hide on website" box does remove all Actinic generated links to it but doesn't delete the page itself from the server..

and, now I come to think of it, I'm getting deja vu...this has been discussed before, I think

absolutely, I would expect it to be

But I just tried it and it didn't purge it.

This is a subject which crops up now and then - big thread on it a year or so ago.

I always advise that if you have deleted lots of items or hidden some the you need to wipe the server to make 100% sure they are all gone.

Hi - thanks for all the replies

It was not too many so I deleted them individually.

I'm not too sure that a non-teccy person who bought an out-of-the-box solution would know how to wipe the server, or would be too happy to do it.

A comment from someone at Actinic would be appreciated on this.
                    Regards

Actinic has never deleted pages from the webserver. Regardless of whether they are marked as deleted/hiiden within the software on the PC.

Personally i tend to go to the webserver and delete all html pages, then upload.

...another sinister aspect of this. I have just refreshed my website (due to a problem) and Actinic has loaded all my hidden pages back up onto the server.

Have been testing in relation to another issue about hiding certain pages from general browser or from appearing in section/sub-section lists.

When the section is marked as hidden the section.html file is purged from the web site, gives a 404 error (at least on our server).

For Actinic Support - hidden pages uploaded when refrshing website

...another sinister aspect of this. I have just refreshed my website (due to a problem) and Actinic has loaded all my hidden pages back up onto the server.
I have just upgraded to v8.5.2 from v8.5.1 and still get this problem - surely this must be a bug Actinic.

Also after a bit more testing Actinic does purge some hidden pages from the server but leaves others on there.

Could someone from Actinic support define what hiding products within Actinic is supposed to do
                            Regards
