A suggestion to get around the problem of hidden pages being restored (albeit hidden):

    export the site
open the export, and delete all bar the hidden items that you wish to keep for future reference/reinstatement
    keep this safe

now you can delete the items from your site, instead of hiding them, knowing that you can later restore them if you wish, from your archived set made above

messy idea for what shouldn't be so messy - but see what you think

      My two pence:

      Make a variable, called: 'OverrideHide'.

enclose the entire page in it.

this would upload a blank page, or some sort of forwarding mechanism?

        Thanks for the replies.

Martin - I think that your suggestion would screw up the related products I have allocated in the Marketing tab.

Gabriel - I will look at that as a workaround - problem is with these kind of things it ends up with the developer picking up the costs as opposed to the clients.

I have been using Actinic since v5 for various clients but the package is now so ropey it may be time to look at alternative solutions - maybe using open source shopping carts and back office product management and order processing solutions.

I will log this with Actinic and I will let you know what the reply is.
        Regards
        David

          Hi David,

I've logged the question with the developers about what the hide on website is actually supposed to do so I'll post back when I get an answer.

            Hi David,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you about this but when you hide a page it does not get removed from the server if it is already up there, just all links to it will be removed from the site. A page that is hidden before it has ever been uploaded will not then be uploaded to the site until it is unhidden.

The only way around it is to delete the page manually from the server. I've raised this as an issue with the development team due to links from search engines still being able to access hidden pages.

Hi Tracey - I logged this with your support department last week - Support query: 140018.

              My testing showed that

1.) Hidden pages are reloaded onto the server when do you a refresh as opposed to an update.

2.) Some hidden pages appear to be purged when doing an update and others are not.
              Regards

That's odd. Is it the same sections that get purged and the same ones that don't everytime? Is there something different between the sections that don't get purged and the sections that do (ie odd characters in page names)?
