Payment By Credit Card Surcharge

Is it possible to set up a surcharge for a particular item if it is purchased with a credit card or paypal as opposed to a debit card. On a product selling for over £900 we are charged £30 by credit card payment more by Paypal but only 29p by debit card.

Yup, restrict it to the payment method that charges you this fee.

you may lose sales, I for one only use my credit card when buying online as it gives me protection. Debit cards do not offer this.

Its one of those decisions made all the time when www buying. Again if i am unsure of a shops credentials i would use CC and PSP for high value items.

If its a £20 purchase on ebay i use paypal, butvery very rarely would I use a debit card.

Im with jo on this one - if I am buying something for £900 there is no way I would pay with a debit card. You must be making enough profit to cover the cost of the card transaction

But I do agree, I only advise charge a surcharge on methods I do not want peeps to use, other than that, it gets popped into the costing factors for my margin calcs.

Yes very true, but if you were considering such a move wouldn't you prefer to know of some potential pitfalls too.

Its up to Owen to decide but i wouldn't feel comfortable simplying answering his question with a this is what you do, when i feel by doing it he may be making the wrong decision. At least now if he decides to force debit cards he will be making a better informed decision.

There was another post here today, where again the questioner was given the literal answer, which wasn't the best answer. The true answer was fix the problem and not to fudge it. He was - unknowingly - asking how to fudge, and that was the answer he got.

I am also surpised at the proposed option and yup, a good, balanced view will allow Owen to strut his own stuff

NP, i am tired so didn't notice the tongue in cheek bit. The only reason i am sat in front of my PC is i picked up the phone to a friend, who as i write this is jabbering away in my ear. Man can she talk for england! oh and the phone is corded so i am stuck.
