SEO for local search

We would like to attract customers to our site who will be looking for products in our specific area (as it's the type of product that people like to view before buying). At the moment when you Google our keywords with the area Local.co.uk, city-vistor, and other directories are at the top of G.

Any suggestions how we could leapfrog these?

Make sure on your paages you include all the key words for your location. As ever though how close you get to the top of the list will also depend on the quailty of your inbound links.

Does anyone recommend any good directories (not link farms) worth submitting your site to manually (apart from dmoz) to get good quality inbound links. Increasingly, those like yell.co.uk etc charge for website links.
Have tried B2B directories but any others would be appreciated.

If you dont see your category, add it and once approved we will add your link to the proper category.

Typically this is a good link with a PR 3,4,5 depending on the page you get listed on.
