This one seems odd. Possibly there is a bug as this query very occasionally comes up. If so, it must be extremely rare. In the past, the most common reason was when people had placed an order on an old or test version of the site.

Good one. When I visited UPS to sign the deal that enabled us to integrate all of the UPS online functionality into the US version of Actinic, they told me it would solve the "WIMFO problem".

        Correct.

Of course, it's a much bigger problem in the US because the place is so much bigger, most deliveries take several days, and the cost is more significant.

Australia is the one that baffles me, where postage has to be heavily subsidised by the government. I released an Actinic site for an Australian supermarket and it is going great. He said they have to pack frozen things in so much ice for transport to him, but it is done and seen as the norm. He then repeats the process to his customers.

I guess you adjust your life and business according to what you have to work with.

I'll up the ante - I would say about about 6 times a year, once recently had two on the same day (but spaced well apart in time).

Valid sequential order number, customer's name & address details, but no item lines.

How about a product with 'Can Be Ordered Online' unchecked? These allow you to add them to the cart, and then disappear when you bounce to the next page.

not in my experience, they don't.

Having "can be ordered online" unchecked should remove the "add to cart" button so how could they be added?

Aha! Running two tests side-by-side on two PCs:

PC 1)Add item to cart, go through checkout. While doing this as a customer might (leaving the screen open, browsing elsewhere, making tea) I changed that particular product to "can be ordered online" unchecked & uploaded the site from PC2. Went back to PC1 and submitted the order - lo & behold, full address details, valid order number, devoid of product.

PC 2)Open the site & refresh the page to be sure - the unchecked product still has an Add To Cart button*. Add To Cart, next page shows it in the cart, click Continue (or wait for bounce) AND THE CART EMPTIES.

                * Tracey thinks it should disappear; I would agree that would make sense, but it doesn't happen on my site. Any comment, anyone?

                (BTW - using v7)

Agree with Tracey. Products with 'can be ordered online' unchecked should have no 'buy now' button (and don't on my sites).

Have you modified the standard product layout code in this area?

Not that I was aware of - however, the product I am playing with is a duplicate, and now you come to mention it, the Original Product (in a different section) DOES NOT have a 'buy now' button!

[EDIT - an hour later] Changing the status of the Original Product affects the ability for the duplicate product to be ordered, (throwing it out of the pram) but does not remove the 'Buy Now' button on the duplicate! [/EDIT]
