Removing elements from Shopping Cart

I'm wanting to remove the extra selection value added to the shopping cart when a purchase is based on selection:



As illustrated above, I prefer not to have the extra 1 shown for colour and size in the shopping cart. From my Version 7 development days I remember editing a perl file to remove it from display, however, it's been a while and I've forgotten and wondered if anyone could advise?
