    Exporting Orders

    Hi,

Ive looked around the forum but still unsure as how to go about doing this.

I want to place all my orders into Microsoft Access. How do I do this?

+ Is this a sensible thing to do? is there a better way? or is there a program that is easier to use with Actinic?

    Thanks as always,
    Toby

    Hello Toby,

They are already in Microsoft access, Actinic uses an access database.

        Hi Toby,

The database is called ActinicCatalog.mdb and is in your site directory. Back everything up before you mess with it, just to be safe.

          AH!

          Thanks Jan, again.

I can see the 'orders' one is the one to open, wow theres a lot of fields!
I guess I can delete unecesarry ones in Access and save the changes?

Woah hold on, this is not a flat database, there are many relationships between fields. Before deleting anything make sure you have a good backup system in place.

              Hi Toby,

I'm not sure what you are trying to do but I would recommend that you don't do it, the database is very complicated and if you mess about with it without know exactly what you are doing you could quite easily kill your shop.

What are you actually trying to do, there might be a better way to go about it.

if you want to delete orders - why not do it from within actinic, open the orders tab, mark each order you want to delete , then purge orders?

                  Hi ya,

no i mean in ACCESS there are about 100 fields to scroll across.

not just credit card details etc... but lots of other stuff.

I just like to have it simple and easy to read, or am I doing this wrong? mmm...

The access database is the heart of actinic, if you remove any fields it will not function correctly.

What are you trying to achieve?

have you looked at the inbuilt actinic reports?

otherwise you could create a report within access using/reading the access info to create output ina readable manner.

The KEY here is to leave the database alone and simply use it to get the info you want, if you delete fields from the db you will stuff up the whole shebang

Take a look at this product from my company, it allows you to view whatever fields you want to for your orders (and to export them to file if you wish to), you can find more details and a free trial here :

                        http://www.mole-end.biz/acatalog/One...ssing.html#aQO

Don't delete fields from the database (or add them to the order tables either) because this will almost certainly stop your catalog from opening up.

If you do want to use access - which I don't think you should - create queries or forms to select the information you want. Don't be tempted to update values from within access as again this can break the database.

                        Regards,

                          Hi guys,

                          sorry to be confusing.

Its a site for a friend and he is used to receiving orders via some other online system, + all his orders can be downloaded straight into Access. He just wants a nice clear view of name/date/order#/etc...

                          I think I will have a go at :

:therwise you could create a report within access using/reading the access info to create output ina readable manner.::

Thanks for all your help, this forum is great,
                          Toby
