anyway of making the Blocks Tutorial readonly

Gabe's doing a fantastic job on the tutorials, but I would love the moderators to make them READONLY (and do it fast) - there has to be a way to make it so that Gabe ONLY can edit these - by all means email Gabe and tell him of any typo's etc, but please lets not deface these tutorials with questions and threads going off at a tangent.

All done - and I've also moved them to the v8 - HTML & CSS Customisation forum as they might run the risk of getting a bit lost in this general one.

brilliant, would be a shame to ruin a great set of threads

It would be great to combine them and link to them from a sticky.

There are boatloads of typos in there. but 'm done for now.

I might go mental in a dustbin and make some more later when i ahve some more ideas about clever things to do with blocks.

I just hope that it makes it easier for noobs that are afraid of the blocks, for some reason. There are loads of problems on the ofrum that can be solves with some creative blocking.

I have also mirrored the tutorials on my site.

            great set of tutorials Gabe.

It was no reflection on the typo's I just didn't want loads of people spoiling what is a great set of threads.

              a general request to everyone,
PLEASE do NOT add comments to the bottom of the tutorials from Gabe

The forum, both old and new members, will get so much more from the tutorials if they are kept as JUST that - a tutorial.

add a comment to the bottom of this one and put a link across to the thread.
if you don't want to add to the bottom of this thread, then start a new thread

as a secondary note, Chris, is there anyway of making them ReadOnly, Perhaps give Gabe a username that means he can update these threads as the sole contributor and then prevent others from ammending them.
You could always PM the couple of people who have already added comments and get them to move the comments elsewhere.

I have a different view than Kevin.

Don't get me wrong. I think the tutorials are great.

I just don't believe they should be put on a pedastal and left sterile for us all to admire and eventually forget. I would much rather we enjoy them while they're hot. Discuss them, praise them, add to them, show examples where you've used them, maybe even improve them. Much better for them to have a brief but glorious existance than be locked away safely for posterity.

Maybe we could compromise. A copy could be kept safely in a tutorial and tips section (together with the tips thread wherever that went to) and then we can all make the most of Gabes original threads.

Gabe has locked them safely away on his own website - perhaps a sticky with links to that is all that is required. The exisiting posts could then be opened up in the way Mike (olderscot) has suggested. Best of both suggestions?

it is for this reason i actually archived them.

i'd actually love examples of real world use, and some more ideas on the next set of tutorials.

I'm always thinking up ways that Actinic can be improved, just wish I had the knowledge to be able to do something useful for the Community peeps.

Excellent, inspiring, unselfish work Mr Pink.

Wonder how Norm is going to come along and sex these up even more... time will tell.

                        I salute you Gabriel.

oh! and I forgot to say thanks and well done. A great set of tutorials.

I was half way through solving a particular problem - how to show a set of special offers on the home page of www.woodworkingcentreshop.co.uk (it's the scrolling set of products on the left of the main page). It is currently hard coded and a pain in the aris when the offers change. You have shown me how to solve the last bit.... how to put a specific set of products into a list.

                          thanks again Gabe
