    Slow snapshot

Just trying out the latest ver8, currently on ver6.
Is it normal for a backup snapshot of the site to take ages to export.
In ver 6 a snapshot takes about half a minute. The same thing in ver 8 takes about 10 minutes.

I can see this version is going to take a while to get to know.

what size is your resulting snapshot, Brian?

10 minute (and much longer!) snapshots aren't uncommon on larger sites

      Hi Tracey,
      9MB
If this is normal I guess I will have to get used to making cups of tea!
Being new to ver8, I am taking frequent snapshots, as cock-ups are proving common.

It would probably crash halfway through doing it and cost me another laptop or monitor, so no thanks.

Compacting the DB was the first thing I tried.
Flying laptops - afraid mine is a desktop!
Same website in ver6 is under a minute, exactly the same products & no orders, as downloaded orders are on another machine.

Sounds like it needs to go off to support to me Brian.
That's not good, in fact it's really crap.
Something will have gone titsup somewhere, anything custom going on?

Just a Dreamweaver outer layer with ccs file and some small script files, all put into "aditional files" list.

There is one thing that may affect it. I originally designed the outerlayer in DW & kept it in a sub-folder of site1. I registered it with Actinic from there, but found the previews were not update. So I copied the files to site1, but the result is that there are 2 copies of the extra files. This doesn't seem to be a problem, but could it slow down the snapshot?

1- Do all linked files (css file & scripts) get registered with Actinic when I registered the outerlayer html file?

2- should I un-register it & do it again, but start with it in site1?

I'd do it again personally, it's a quick process and allows you to remove one possible problem from the list. Make sure you delete the old layout as you will have to rename, in fact apply a standard theme, then delete layout, then reregister it and have it in site1 folder. Prefix the names with the number 1 and they will always be at the top of the list for you .

Excellent suggestion, I will try it later today. Good idea about the number 1, thanks.

Just before I do that, can you tell me if I will need to register all files linked to a new outerlayer html file, or is that not necessary. The site uses my ccs file for the outerlayer only, the inner ones are handled by actinic.css.

What are the 'all files' you mention? I only ever have my own CSS stylesheet, as long as that is there, you should be fine unless you have something specific.

Taken all custom files off, now down to just under 5 minutes. This still seems slow to me for a 9MB file saved on the same computer.

Are you running it on a Commodore 64? V8 is more resource hungry as it does more things, I would expect about 45 seconds for 9mb though. Still something wrong somewhere.
