Japanese and Chinese Character Sets - adding to actinic

    Hi everyone,

I would like my shopping cart to be able to show Japanese and Chinese Characters. Also I want to show the Romanisation characters such as the letter O with a line over the top.

I have absolutely no idea how to do this and have searched around for it. Does anyone have any ideas or can point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

You can't with Japanese or Chinese is the simple answer due to completely different encoding requirements. However, you can use images with the characters/words in into the image(s). Your 'O' with a circumflex would probably be available, you'd just need the correct character for it, bit like including a trademark or copyright sign etc.

I have released a Japanese site, all browsing is done on external pages with Japanese text, and links through to the actinic shopping cart which is in English though.

Lee is right, you can't have your Actinic software work in Japanese or Chinese as the font codes are different. Do you want these kanji in the shopping for cosmetic reasons or do you have customers who actually need to read these characters in Japanese or Chinese. If it’s just cosmetic then just use images like Lee suggested. If your customers actually have to read this in their own language then probably the best thing is just to translate your text into the relevant language and use roman characters. I know you can do this with Japanese but I am not sure about Chinese.

You can do this actually by creating a HTML page for each product description and then adding the page as a user defined variable, with a type of file content to the product (same for sections etc). Then modify the design to include this variable.

To get the variables to display correctly you will also have to change the character set for the pages, which I believe you can do on the outer layout.

What you will not be able to do though is make this searchable because file content variables cannot be set a searchable.
