    Google page rank

I have just done a site refresh and my Google page rank immediately dropped to 0 on all but 2 pages.

Is this normal and will it come back?

It's nothing to do with your site refresh, there has been a recent update and those are probably your new rankings. OR you might find the toolbar is playing up a bit and a bit slow, access a page and wait for a moment, it will probably update for you then.

      Page Rank Dropped

      Hi,

Google re-indexed over th 10-12th of Jan, and cleaned out loads of links. Most commercial sites have dropped 1 point, we are down from PR5 to PR4. It has not affected our traffic and the only real benefit of Page Rank nowadays is if you are trying to sell links.

When I checked my Webmaster tools I can see what Google truly thinks of the site!

      Regards

      John

          Hi Tristram,

It's a tough world out there, and Google doesn't make it any easier! There isn't an easy answer

Yep junky links pages should be a thing of the past i hope. As the days go by, the results get more accurate and the best sites move towards the top. A link exchange is worth so little anyway, look for some oneways or better still improve your content and let people do it without having to be asked.

So Cynical in one so young!.

It's flippin hard work generating 'real meaningful' links - much easier to buy some

LOL, i'm not cynical, i'm overjoyed, at last the people who follow the guidelines and do things as suggested are finally being rewarded. That's a great place to be, if you've been a good boy, sites around you are falling like the Berlin wall and you can sit in the middle of them smiling.

if you are going to link exchange then do it across lots of pages do not create a page of links

by doing it across loads of pages you will only place a link where it will be useful to the visitor

you should apply the same thinking to links as you do when writing page copy - you write for for the real human visitor

treat a link in the same way you would if you were a shop keeper in a B/M shop - someone comes into your shop and asks for something you don't stock - what do you do - ignore him or tell him where the nearest shop is that does sell what he wants? if you become known for useful info people will come back and maybe when they come back they will buy something from you

I was contacted by someone called "It's Cold Outside" recently and posted a thread here to get other peoples opinions. I think from the replies I was getting was avoid like the plague.
