Mine is fixed and problem was found, well on one site it was solved anyway, so i'm happy. GG at Actinic is a very nice man, a very very nice man.

I had a new site uploading yesterday so quick it was like a dream, i must have uploaded 60 times yesterday, it was easier to upload than look at the squashed preview. Sites with just one product at the start of the build are my dream from now on. First question on builds from now on is 'how many products?', if answer comes back more than 5, 'sorry Sir, we're fully booked.'

ok...well speeding up uploading is a big bonus (as the dimwit who accidentally deleted her live site and had to do a complete upload the other day ) but, I dunno....

Yeah that's the fellow, i was feeling a little disappointed at about 8.30pm, thinking i wish i'd heard something and lo and behold an email popped into my inbox, explaining the problem and how to fix it. I was very impressed especially at that time, done and dusted in a total of 46 hours.

Funny thing support really, had i had to wait til mid morning next day, about 60 hours in total, i'd have felt it was a bit long. As it was cos he took the effort at that time of night, i came away very impressed.

          The site is on v8.5.1

It is the actual layout tab that is missing not any UDV's

Cheeky beggar. Oh... I am myself on v8.5.0 ... this error is on someone else's site who has the good sense to be away from v8.5.0

                    Possible Solution

The missing tabs are still missing so bit the bullet and phoned support.

One of the suggestions in what was causing any new sections or sub-sections to be missing the default layout tab was the "stylesheet being external"

Hmm - I'm not sure I see how an external design can affect the presence of tabs, but maybe they know something I don't.

John - the issue is that for some reason Actinic does not think that it needs to show the custom variables for some sections. When Actinic thinks that there are no custom variables to display in the 'Layout' tab (or the 'Properties' tab or any other tabs that contain nothing but grids of variables) the tabs themselves will be hidden.

The way I fixed this in a site before is by re-setting all the content by doing a hierarchical file export, deleting and purging the entire content tree and then re-importing the content. This re-initialises the display of variables and should cause your tabs to re-surface.

Really, the long term solution is to upgrade, as we completely re-write the handling of custom variables in 8.5.2 to try and eliminate these kinds of problems.

You need to shout Chris, Mr Cautious is in his nuclear bunker in case his mobile phone starts a war. LOL @ Upgrade though, he will wait til 9.4 to make sure 8.5.2 has bedded in .

I had to bite back on the reply when this was suggested by support

This was tried to no effect
