    dodgy link?

    Hi,
I'm trying to place a link in our next newsletter that will bring the reader directly to the product in question, in this case a book.
This is the link as it should be as (I think):
    http://www.orchidbooks.org/cgi-bin/s....org/acatalog/
The book in question, with Prod.Ref nr: 9780912111858 is on the site, clearly visible. However, when I try the link, I'm told the product with that ref cannot be found?
    Anybody any ideas?

    Thanks
    Ian

The link worked fine for me - took me straight to the correct book.

Is it a duplicate, if so it probably needs to have the duplicate additional characters added to the prod ref? Why not link direct to the page name and relevant anchor instead? no need to go through the cgi-bin.

        Hi Thanks

the product is not a duplicate, so no additional characters needed. Glad to hear it worked for one of you, it remains stubborn for me. All I get the famous "404 Error, "Not found". Even if I try it from the link in the initial post, same error.
Could this possibly have something to do with using Firefox? We've had a few instances of links not working, most annoying of all in our on-line banking system! And they blame Firefox, fair and square.

Initially I tried the link in IE7 then just now I tried on another machine with FF and it still works fine for me. Strange.

            Hi again,

it would seem to be Firefox indeed. Just called my daughter, who runs Explorer. She logged in to the server hosting the newsletter software, tried the link, and yes indeed, straight to the book.
Thanks for looking at this, looks like we'll have to revert to Internet Explorer.

Odd because FF is ok for me.

                Hi Duncan,

I just had to know, so installed IE7 on this machine (which also has FF on it). In IE7, the link works perfect, FF says "Not Found"!?! Very strange indeed.

Works fine for me in both IE7 and FF too!

But why not try what Lee suggests further up the thread, it might just fix it for you!

Its at the top of the page so why not just link it to the page url

FF i have been having alot of problems lately, always been good for me, but i am really struggling when it comes to updated pages, i regulary have to clear the cache. It also has this uncanny knack of taking you to live sites when you viewing test sites.

And the worst problem lately is freezing, crashes more than once aday, which is a shame as it has always been great but the latest update seems to added some issues.

                      Just my Opinion

Well people, thanks for all this insight. Have to agree with Darren, FF is indeed playing up big time lately. But I know this way of creating links works now, thanks to IE7, so don't fix what ain't broke.
