Problem when uploading changes to website

    Hi,

Has anyone experienced a fatal error when uploading changes to their website? My v8 has been working fine for a while now but suddenly a few days ago when I tried to update some very simple changes I had made to the site, as the software started to go through the check list it stopped on the 'checking HTML pages/checking account data' part and simply came up with a fatal error.

I have checked with Actinic who installed my snapshot onto their machine and it uploaded everything with no problems. They have asked me to repair/compact database but this has not helped. I will be talking with them again but thought I would check here to see if anyone knows of this problem?

The only change I have made to my PC lately is to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus and install AVG instead.

Grateful if anyone has any ideas?

    Many thanks.

Make sure you have completely uninstalled Norton - that's not always an easy task.

    How about your firewall?

      Hi Duncan,

I did use the 'proper' uninstall tool supplied by Norton but I take your point, it could be the problem. I haven't changed any other firwall settings. Actinic are recommending a complete Actinic uninstall and reinstall process. The thought worries me but I don't think I'm going to have much choice unless you have any other thoughts?

      Thanks again....

      Ian.

You could try running a network test. That should show whether Actinic is having trouble getting access to the server or it's something else.

With AVG Firewall you could check that.

Well the mystery is finally resolved and its quite surprising. Actinic managed to upload my site from their office so they suggested I upgrade to their version (8.5.2) which I did on a different PC, although I couldn't see what difference it would make.

Then when I refreshed the site it was successful, but with one error message regarding the last customer account I created a few days ago, saying something like this account did not have an associated shipping or tax band. So...I went back to my original site, deleted this account and hey presto....problem solved.

Why on earth a simple mistake (although not sure at the moment what I did wrong) can firstly be allowed to be made and secondly why it should prompt a crash I don't know...just glad I got to the bottom of it.

My thanks go to Mike, Duncan and Louise (and Actinic!) for their on and off line help, its great to come here and get this kind of help.

            Ian.
